Amazon shares news: Global etailer’s Prime day to run for 36 hours

Amazon has confirmed that its 2018 Prime Day will run for 36 hours – longer than ever before. The day will begin at 3pm US time on July 16th and include discounts at Whole Foods too. The day will also be on offer to four new countries – Australia, Singapore, Netherlands and Luxembourg - as the entire day expands.

Amazon shares closed higher 0.82% higher in the US Monday at $1,713.78. The stock is also currently in the green in pre-market activity.

Amazon Prime Day 2018

As in previous years, Prime Day 2018 will offer member’s discounts on a wide range of items they purchase from Amazon during the event. Amazon said that over 1 million items will be discounted and that there will be over 50% more Spotlight Deals than before.

“Prime members will enjoy a day (and a half) of our best deals, with 36 hours to shop more than one million deals worldwide,” said Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer.

“New this year, members can shop exclusive Prime Day Launches from hundreds of brands worldwide, enjoy exclusive savings at Whole Foods Market and experience surprise entertainment events unboxed from giant Smile boxes in major cities. More than 100 million paid Prime members around the world will find our best Prime Day celebration yet,” he added.

Amazon buys electric delivery vans

Some Prime customers in Germany could even have some of their Prime day orders delivered in one of the tech giant’s new electric vans it has purchased from Mercedes Benz.

Amazon has purchased 100 of the battery-electric eVito vans for use in its Bochum and Dusseldorf locations.

Mercedes added that it’s working with Amazon to create a new electric and automated system in its Bochum facility. This will include charging for the electric vehicles, parking space management and automated capture of the status of each vehicle.
