Twitter shares ended in the green Tuesday, after the social media platform announced it had signed new live streaming content agreements for its Asia-Pacific users.

Twitter shares closed higher in the US Tuesday, as the social media platform announced it had signed new content deals to live stream sports, entertainment and news for its Asia-Pacific audience. The new agreements are with companies including, Sony Music, Fox Sports Asia Comic Con India.

Twitter shares ended the US Tuesday trading session 1.18% higher at $30.89. However, the stock is a little lower in out-of-hours trading.

Twitter’s video content expansion

Twitter said Tuesday, that it had penned agreements with 12 businesses to provide live streaming content on its platform, that will be available to its Asia-Pacific users.

“Building on the success of our premium video content launch at All That Matters last year, we are proud to expand our live stream and video highlights programming that is brand safe and will appeal to the audience and advertisers in APAC,” said Maya Hari, Vice President of Asia Pacific, Twitter.

“The move strengthens Twitter’s presence and partnerships in the region, sharing with the world what’s happening right now in Asia Pacific and for global audiences to talk about it,” Hari added.

The move comes as Twitter works to build on a growing Asia Pacific user base and the explosion in demand for online and live-streamed content.

Twitter to livestream Apple event

Separately, Twitter is set to livestream the Apple press event later Wednesday, for the first time, according to TechCrunch.

“Join us September 12 at 10 a.m. PDT to watch the #AppleEvent live on Twitter. Tap ❤️ below and we’ll send you updates on event day,” Apple has tweeted ahead of its new product launch event at which three new iPhones are expected to be unveiled.

The tech news publication said this is the first time Apple has used the word ‘watch’ in a tweet advertising it’s event coverage on Twitter. In addition, Apple has also confirmed to the publication, that the event will be livestreamed on Twitter.
