The exchange manages the local Italian markets by ensuring supervision of transactions and regulation of listed companies. Initially, the exchange operated on public ownership until 1997 when it was privatized. The exchange has expounded its operations and currently serves as a subsidiary of London Stock Exchange Group since 2007. The main trading markets for the exchange include the MTA, AIM Italia, and MIV. In addition, the exchange operates derivatives, EFTs, and bonds.
