Anglo American Plc was founded in 1917 in South Africa as Anglo American Corporation (AAC) by Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, a German Jewish, who became interested in natural resources while working for Dunkelbuhler & Co. in Kimberley. Sir Ernest died in the late 1950s and was succeeded by his son, Harry Oppenheimer. The company expanded its businesses by acquiring several subsidiaries including De Beers, Scaw Metals, Minas-Rio and much more, allowing the firm to emerge the world’s leading gold mining corporation.

Currently, the company is headquartered in London, UK, with various operations in more than 45 countries across the globe. The corporation is mainly listed on London Stock Exchange associated with FTSE 100 Index and Johannesburg Stock Exchange markets and manufactures a wide range of mining products in key business areas namely: platinum; diamonds, base metals, coal, and iron ore. It produces over 40 percent of platinum and diamonds across the globe.
