AZ Electronic Materials Group was founded in 1950s. It was a division of Hoechst, which is today referred to as Sanofi. The company’s governance has changed hands since its formation, and in 2014, it was acquired by Merck KGaA, a German Multinational Pharmaceutical company.

Merck KGaA is located in Darmstadt, Germany, and its 50,000 employees are spread across 70 countries. It is one of the longest-serving chemical and pharmaceutical company having been founded in 1668 by Friedrich Jacob Merck.

The company’s products include Bisoprolol, Digitoxin, Levothyroxine, and Metformin, among others. With a balanced focus on innovation and research, Merck has been hitting numerous milestones. The latest one was the celebration of its 350th anniversary.

Merck has the rights of operation using the name Merck in a majority of countries. However, not in the U.S. and Canada where it uses the name EMD; Emanuel Merck, Darmstadt. Meanwhile, its listing can be found on the ETR market.
