Ted Tuppen is the originator of Enterprise Inns plc. He did so in 1991 and started with 300 pubs. The enterprise undertook various acquisitions, and in 2017, it rebranded to Ei Group. It has its corporate offices in Solihull, West Midlands.

Ei Group plc manages the largest portfolio of pubs in the UK. Tenants operate the pubs while submitting the rent to the company. Some tenants also operate beer tie, which dictates that they can only buy some alcoholic products from Enterprise Inns.
