Frederick Rushbrooke is the visionary behind the inauguration of Halfords Group plc. In 1892, he founded the company in Birmingham and as a wholesale ironmongery. In 1902, the company acquired its current name. It was named after Halford Street in Leicester, where Rushbrooke moved the store.

Halfords headquarters are currently located in Redditch, Worcestershire, England, with another 465 shops in the UK. About 22 of them are located in the Republic of Ireland.

The Group retails in car parts, touring equipment, car parts and enhancements, and bicycles. It has over 300 garages, all of which are stocked with state-of-the-art equipment for car repair and service. It also offers event support at cyclo sportives such as Etape Loch Ness, Velo Birmingham, and Palace2Palace.
