ITV Plc began broadcasting n 1955 just a year after the passing of the Television Act. At the time of the founding, the company broadcasted in the London area alone. By the early seventies, the company had rights to broadcast beyond London. The company consolidated its service in 1994 after Granada and LWT merged. ITV Plc proper came into existence in 2004 after Granada merged with Carlton.

The new company acquired Channel TV and Ulster TV, resulting in the acquisition of 13 broadcasting licenses. ITV Plc has its headquarters in London, United Kingdom and it operates in the TV broadcasting industry. Besides television broadcasting, ITV helps to push other companies’ goods through television advertising. In addition, ITV owns and operates ITV studios that produce content for broadcasters like Channel 4 and the BBC. Other services that ITV offer include distribution of films and television programs. ITV Plc trades on the London Stock Exchange under the ITV symbol.
