James Fisher & Sons Plc is a marine services company that was established in 1847 by James Fisher. At the time of establishment, the company-owned ships and transported goods and services for clients in Barrow-in-Furness and beyond. The company extended its operations to shipbuilding but later terminated the venture. James Fisher & Sons continues to operate from Barrow-in-Furness, the United Kingdom, as its headquarters.

Presently, the company has extended the scope of its business operations to include chartering of ships, shipping insurance consulting, freight forwarding, ships’ agency, warehousing, and ship contracting, among others. Primarily, the company operates through four divisions, namely, Specialist Technical, Offshore Oil, Tankships, and Marine Support. The Tankships offer transport and storage services for fossil fuels and biofuels to clients in Northern Europe and the UK. The company’s shares trade on the London Stock Exchange with FSJ as the ticker symbol as well as on Boerse-Stuttgart with 6FJ as the ticker symbol.
