Mecom Group

In 2005, David Montgomery formed Mecom; a company focused on acquiring and operating newspaper publishing businesses. In the first two months of its existence, the company was called DMWSL 456 PLC. Sustained growth saw Mecom Group join the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) just months after founding. The company listed its shares on the London Stock Exchange in 2008 but later dropped out after De Persgroep, a Belgian publishing company controlled by the Van Thillo family, acquired it.

Mecom Group Plc operates in the media industry, particularly the publishing and broadcasting sector. The firm operates like a holding company where it owns various consumer publishing businesses across Europe. There are close to 300 titles under the company’s control, as well as more than 200 websites. London remains the headquarters of Mecom even as it operates as a constituent of De Persgroep.
