Merlin Entertainments Group Ltd. was formed in 1999 through the collaborative efforts of Nick Varney and Andrew Carter. Six years later, The Blackstone Group acquired Merlin, and the company began acquiring other businesses like Legoland, The Tussauds Group, and Gardaland resort to shore up its asset base. Further growth through more acquisition ventures saw Merlin Entertainments join the London Stock Exchange in 2013 with MERL as its stock symbol.

Through partnerships and acquisitions, Merlin Entertainments has business operations across North America, Europe, and Asia. Some of the businesses include several parks under the LEGOLAND® brand in Japan, Florida in the US, Manchester, and Blackpool in the UK, Malaysia, Shanghai in China, Berlin in Germany, and Chicago in the US. The company has two major shareholders, namely Blackstone Group and Kirkbi A/S, and it’s head offices are in Poole, Dorset, the United Kingdom. Primary products include Legoland Resorts, London Eye, Heide Park, Thorpe Park, and Sea Life Aquariums, among others.
