Shortly after inception, it acquired several businesses and trademarks to form Habitat Mothercare plc in 1982. As a result of international expansion from the 1990s to 2000, the company changed its name to Mothercare plc.

The specialist retailer is based in Watford, Hertfordshire, and deals in motherhood products. It has online operations with over 1,302 stores worldwide.
