Smurfit Kappa Group

Smurfit Kappa Group was established in 1934 after Mr. Jefferson Smurfit acquired a Dublin-based box-maker. The company relied on a series of acquisitions to grow through the years. Through a merger, the US section of Jefferson Smurfit’s business changed its name to Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. In 2005, Jefferson Smurfit combined its assets and operations with Kappa Packaging to establish Smurfit Kappa.

Smurfit Kappa Group plc specializes in paper-based packaging products. The packaging products come in different forms depending on the type of the customer. Besides providing corrugated packaging products and composite cardboard tubes, the company manufactures and distributes printing and writing papers. Other products include eucalyptus seedlings, solid board sheets, and MG Kraft papers. In addition, the company offers financial services and food-serving services.

Smurfit operates in Europe and the Americas as its primary market but has its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. The company’s shares trade on the Irish Stock Exchange under SK3 symbol and on the London Stock Exchange with SKG as its symbol. Smurfit is part of the FTSE 100 component.
