Spirit Pub

Formed in 1999 by Punch Taverns, Spirit Pub is a pub and restaurant company headquartered in Burton upon Trent, the United Kingdom. In its initial years, the company operated and managed pub estate made up of pubs bought from Allied Domecq.

The company demerged by Punch in 2002 and went on to acquire Scottish and Newcastle retail business before being re-acquired by Punch in 2006. However, Punch Taverns demerged it in 2011. Greene King acquired the company in 2015, resulting in the delisting of the company from the London Stock Exchange.

Spirit Pub operates a line 777 branded and managed pubs throughout the U.K. as of 2013, supplemented by an additional 452-leased pub. While the company employs more than 15,000 workers, most of the staff are engaged in zero-hour contracts. Some of the company’s notable brands include Chef & Brewer, Fayre & Square as well as Flaming Grill.
