The company offered its first product in 1997 after being launched in 1996. It was founded as a telecommunications business to offer low cost calling solutions through a routing gadget, Smart Box.

The company has been operating two activities; a telecommunications management limited service and a Utility Warehouse. It is based in the UK. In 2017, Opus Energy bought a 20% shares from Telecom plus PLC.

Opus Energy owned by Drax Group was formed in 2001 under the name Oxford Power Holdings Limited. It was rebranded in 2010, and its headquarters is in Northampton, UK, and another office in Oxford. It supports energy-generating sites by supplying them with gas and electricity. To date, about 10,000 businesses, which include institutions, small-sized, and medium and large organizations have benefited from the company’s support.
