Tullow Oil

Aiden Heavey founded Tullow Oil Plc in Tullow, Ireland, in 1985. Starting the company was a big challenge because Heavey lacked oil industry experience, not enough capital, and Ireland did not have a robust local market for oil. Primarily, Heavey started Tullow to rework on old oil fields that major companies had abandoned in Africa. The first project for Tullow was based in Senegal, and the company later expanded into Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, and off to Asia.

The company acquired Hardman Resources Limited in 2007, which helped it to gain access to Mauritania and South America. Other notable acquisitions for the company include Energy Africa in 2004 and North Sea Gas Fields from BP in 2000. Tullow Oil is primarily an exploration and production company of oil and gas. The company’s headquarters are in London, United Kingdom. Tullow Oil trades on a number of exchanges, including the London Stock Exchange as TLW, on Ghana Stock Exchange as TLW, and on Euronext N.V. as TQW.
