Unite Group was established in 1991 to plug the demand for accommodation by University students around Bristol. Nicholas Porter, the founder of the company, succeeded in incorporating Unite Group in 1996, followed by an IPO in 2000 to float its shares on the London Stock Exchange. Further expansion of business saw the company establish new properties in London, Portsmouth, Liverpool, and Manchester. Soon after listing on LSE in 2000, the company embarked on a mission to establish businesses across the whole of the United Kingdom.

Primarily, the Unite Group develops and operates properties meant for student accommodation. The company has two segments through which it handles its businesses. The Operations segment manages all the properties under the company’s ownership. On the other hand, the Property segment takes care of property development. The company rents out properties to universities, which sublet to students, and directly to the students themselves. Unite Group has its headquarters in Bristol, UK.
