Mastercard inc. is an international corporation providing financial services. The company’s United States headquarters are located in New York City, while its global operations are headquartered in O’Fallon, Missouri, the U.S. It provides mainly credit cards and payment systems.

The firm’s main focus is on processing transactions between banks and users by issuing cards. The cards are designed in the form of debit, credit, or prepaid to enable banks process payments for its users.

Mastercard was established in 1966 by a group of bankcard associations as a rival to the BankAmericard or Visa card. The company was initially operated as a cooperative of more than 25,000 banks and other financial institutions before it became a public entity. The firm started trading as a public company in 2006.

The company has operations worldwide and operates several brands, including Mastercard, Cirrus, Maestro, Masterpass, and Mondex. Currently, the bank is traded on NYSE a component of the S&P 100 and S&P 500.
