How do I stake Dai?

Copy link to section

The easiest way to stake DAI is to use a platform like [top-partner] to join a staking pool. The staking platform takes care of the technical side of things for you and pays out your rewards straight into your account at regular intervals, just like how a bank credits a savings account at the end of each month.

Once you’ve chosen a platform and created an account, you usually just need to send your DAI to the built-in wallet. Sometimes you need to actively choose to stake, while with other platforms the Dai is staked automatically.

For example, with Nexo, you start earning interest immediately, as soon as you have DAI in your Nexo account. You then have the option to create fixed-term contracts which pay higher rates for a period of time.

How much can I make by staking Dai?

Use the Dai earn calculator to find out exactly how much you could make. However, in almost every instance staking DAI pays a better rate of interest than keeping fiat currency in a bank savings account.

For example, if you have £1000 in a savings account paying 1% interest, over the course of the year you would earn £10. This is normally paid into your account on a monthly basis.

Dai staking rewards are higher, more flexible, and can be paid out more frequently. For instance, if you spend $1000 to buy DAI and deposit it onto a staking platform, then you may be able to earn significantly more and receive that money on a daily basis. If the DAI reward was 8%, this would be the calculation:

£1000 x 8% APY rewards = £80

£80/365 days = £0.21 per dayusd

Or in Dai;:

1 DAI x 8% APY rewards = 0.08 DAI

0.08 DAI/365 days = 0.0002 DAI per day

You can also choose to adjust your staking amount or withdraw your money at any time without losing out on your rewards. The trade-off is that the price of the coin is more volatile than fiat currency and the value of your holdings can fluctuate dramatically.
