What is SafeMoon?

SafeMoon is a blockchain business that invests in innovative technology and charitable projects. It has developed a cryptocurrency, also known as SafeMoon (SFM). The name SafeMoon reflects its aim to create a crypto that’s low risk but can still go ‘to the moon’ – a safe way to make a lot of money.

The SFM crypto is a ‘meme’ coin; a cryptocurrency where its price is based on internet hype and online memes, rather than any inherent value.

How does SafeMoon work?

Copy link to section

At a basic level, SafeMoon works by storing transactions on a blockchain. What sets it apart from other crypto coins is that, rather than creating new tokens through a ‘mining’ process, as Bitcoin does, SafeMoon has a set of rules that are written in ‘smart contracts’, lines of code that dictate how the platform works.

These rules lay down the mechanism for a transaction tax of 10% on every buy or sell order that is at the core of what makes SafeMoon different. The proceeds are split up, with 4% paid out to existing SFM holders, 3% into a ‘liquidity pool’, 2% is destroyed, and 1% goes to the ‘SafeMoon Growth Fund’.

How is the SafeMoon network secured?

Copy link to section

SafeMoon is built on the BSC Chain, which is secured by a proof of authority consensus mechanism. This means the validators stake their reputation, rather than their money, on approving new transactions.

The SafeMoon network also burned (destroyed) all of the coins in its development wallet upon launch as an additional security measure. However, it remains more centralised than other crypto projects, as the SafeMoon Fund earns more coins as part of every transaction fee and so controls a significant amount of the network.

What is SafeMoon used for?

Copy link to section

The truth is SafeMoon doesn’t have many use cases. It is purely an asset to speculate on at the moment. In future, SafeMoon plans to release its own decentralised exchange and create a whole network of decentralised assets, with the SFM coin at the centre.

This expansion would be funded by the SafeMoon Growth Fund, from the money it generates from every transaction. However, right now, you can’t use SafeMoon for anything. The main incentive to buy it is to hold it and earn rewards.

Why does SFM have value?

Copy link to section

SafeMoon’s unique feature is the way it pays you simply for holding the coin. By charging a high transaction fee, it funds a rewards pool that is paid out to other SafeMoon holders. The higher the trading volume, the more money you earn from owning it.

There is also the potential for future development. SafeMoon has already undergone a significant upgrade, when it improved the blockchain so that it can create its own exchange and potentially expand into the metaverse and NFTs. These additions would likely make the SFM coin more valuable.

Who created SafeMoon?

Copy link to section

SafeMoon was created by John Karony, who is currently the CEO of the SafeMoon project. Karony previously worked as an analyst for the US Department of Defense, but little more is known about him and his work history prior to starting SafeMoon in 2021.

Where can I buy SafeMoon V2?

Copy link to section

You can buy SafeMoon V2 on a crypto exchange. An exchange is a marketplace that allows you to sign up, deposit your money, and buy some crypto, just as you would with a stock platform.

Most cryptocurrency brokers allow you to keep the coins you buy in your account. However, you may want to sign up for a dedicated crypto wallet for some extra security.

Are there any other ways to invest in SafeMoon V2?

Copy link to section

The simplest way to invest in SafeMoon V2 is to buy it outright. However, another option is to simply open a crypto account. Crypto accounts are like regular bank accounts and allow you to store a variety of currencies, send and receive payments, earn interest on savings, and spend freely with a credit card.

You can also invest in crypto more generally through a crypto ETF or a crypto fund. These are financial instruments that give you exposure to a group of leading cryptocurrencies, more suited to high net worth individuals.

Are there any SafeMoon alternatives?

Copy link to section

There are many SafeMoon alternatives, as a lot of meme coins lurched into being over the course of 2021. Choosing the best of these coins is often more about timing and luck than any sound economic assessment. Here are some SafeMoon alternatives.

  • Dogecoin. Dogecoin is the original meme coin that started as a joke but has since been promoted by Elon Musk.
  • Shiba Inu. Shiba Inu is a meme coin that’s styled as the ‘Dogecoin killer’.
  • ApeCoin. ApeCoin is associated with the Bored Ape Yacht Club range of NFTs.
