When an insurer has to meet a claim under a policy, he frequently employs an average adjustor to inspect the property which is the subject of the claim and to ascertain the extent of the liability of the insurer under the operative policy. This can be very important where the policy contains an average clause and in marine insurance, where a claim may be for a general average loss or for a particular average loss.
