Classified advertisement

The type of advcrtisement usually contained in newspapers and magazines under a specific column heading or classification common within the newspaper world, e.g. situations vacant; flats to let; births, marriages and deaths; plant for hire, etc. It is normally paid for on a lineage basis, i.e. at so many pence per word.
