A professional association for persons using survey techniques in market, social and economic research. Founded in 1947, it seeks to promote and protect the interests of its members and those employing their services. It also attempts to publicize the profession. Members are bound to observe a standard code of practice in conducting scientific sample surveys and reporting results. Various conferences are held to exchange information, and liaison with government departments. universities, scientific institutions, etc., is preserved. Members may be Full Members (M.M.R.S.) or Associates (A.M.M.R.S.), the former having obtained full professional standing.
