The organization within the U.K. which has the sole authority to manufacture the coin and note-issue of the realm. Once situated in London, but now in Llantrisant in Wales, it is under the control of the Chancellor of the Exchequer and has had the sole right to make legal coinage since the sixteenth century. Besides being the sole provider of U.K. coinage and notes it also manufactures currency for other nations and is often charged with the making and supply of commemorative medals.
