Trade and Industry, Department of
A government department with overall responsibility for matters appertaining to industrial activity and commerce both domestic and in the context of international trade. It is charged with supervision of competition policy and protection of consumers and in this connection, it acts closely with the Office of Fair Trading and the Monopolies and Mergers Commission. It is also responsible for the implementation and administration of legislation relating to companies. The Registrar of Companies is accountable to the D.T.I., which has taken over all functions previously appertaining to the Department of Trade.
