Write-off
A reduction in the value assigned to a transaction in the accounts to zero. A write-off is more severe than a write-down. Write-off is also used to describe the status of an asset after an accident severe enough to reduce the value of the asset to zero. Depreciation is the process of writing off assets gradually over time.
