iNVEZZ.com, Thursday, June 27: Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), the operator of the world’s largest social network, yesterday finally announced a native application for Microsoft Corp’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows 8.

As technology website Venture Beat reported, the app was presented by Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer at Microsoft’s Build conference in San Francisco. The move is a significant step forward for the Redmond-based company, which has been building its Windows 8 application store. The lack of app variety has been one of the main points of criticism against the new OS, along with some questionable design decisions and the removal of traditional features such as the Start button.

In addition to the Facebook app, Microsoft yesterday also presented a native version of the popular news reader Flipboard and a native version of NFL Fantasy Football.
