Samsung Stock Price: Galaxy Note 3 Set for September Release?

on Aug 16, 2013
Listen Friday, August 16th: Samsung (KRX:005930) is hosting an Unpacked event in Berlin on September 4 just before the annual IFA show. It is expected that the South Korean smartphone manufacturer will release the Galaxy Note 3 “phablet” in the German capital. The company has announced its two previous Galaxy Note devices at similar pre-IFA shows.

Rumours are that the new phablet (the name used for smartphones with very large screen sizes like tablets) will come with a 5.7 inch 1080p display, a 5G Wi-Fi chip and two different CPU options. The quad-core Snapdragon 800 will power handsets for sale in Australia, the US, and a few other key markets while the octa-core is initially reserved for France, the UK, and the emerging markets with China headlining the pack, SamMobile reported yesterday.

**Samsung Gear – the Android wristwatch of the future**
Another rumour has it that Samsung may release a smartwatch dubbed Galaxy Gear in the following months. The device is said to have all the features of a wristwatch along with some the abilities of a modern smartphone. Earlier this month, ABC News released a technical drawing of the alleged smartwatch for which Samsung had filed requests for a US trademark and for patents with the Korean Intellectual Property Office. “Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages,” says the trademark filing as reported by the WSJ. This might be just one of the many devices which the South Korean company has patented over the last couple of years in its patent wars with Apple.

The US-based-based company is also said to be working on an iWatch which will have the ability to pair with an iPhone and show a variety of notifications, such as new emails, text messages, and missed calls.
**Samsung sued over poor working conditions in Brazil**

The Brazilian Ministry of Labor is suing Samsung for around $108 million (£69 million). The authorities have filed a lawsuit against the South Korean corporation alleging labour rights violations in one of the company’s factories.
Reporter Brasil is citing a number of poor working conditions which the ministry had discovered after conducting inspections in 2011 and 2013. One example is 10-15 hours of manual labour a day with workers being on their feet during the whole shift. One worker even reported working 27 days in a row in these conditions.

According to the report, over 2,000 employees of the total 5,600 working at the factory have requested to be removed from their workplace due to health problems such as back problems and other work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
Samsung’s stock price was 1,295,000 won (£728.84) as of 16.08.2013, 10:05 BST. The company shares have shed almost 16 percent since the end of May when they were trading at around 1,538,000.00 won (£884.35).
