Microsoft’s new browser to feature Cortana support

Listen, Friday, January 9: More details have been leaked about Microsoft Corp’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) new browser,which is due to replace Internet Explorer as the main web browser in the forthcoming Windows 10. Last week reports in the media suggested that the Redmond-based software giant was building a new web browser codenamed “Spartan” that would be a key piece in its new operating system. Yesterday, a report by The Verge revealed that the browser would come with some new features not found in rival products.

Citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, the online publication said that Spartan would feature a web note service enabling users to annotate a web page with a stylus and send the notes and annotations to friends or colleagues. The service would be powered by Microsoft’s OneDrive, meaning that annotated web pages would be able to be stored in the cloud storage platform “that can be accessed by any browser across multiple platforms”, according to The Verge.

Another major feature for the new browser is the integration of Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant. Cortana is reportedly expected to replace the existing Bing search facility in Internet Explorer.
According to the report a new way for users to group tabs together would also be included,amongst other features. The product has been designed as a single browser across PCs, tablets, and phones The Verge said.

In yesterday’s trading, Microsoft shares finished nearly three percent higher at $47.59, giving the company a market capitalisation of $381.39 billion. According to the Financial Times, the 31 analysts offering 12 month price targets for Microsoft Corporation have a median target of $51.00, with a high estimate of $58.00 and a low estimate of $34.00. The current consensus estimate among 54 polled investment analysts covering the company has it that the company will outperform the market.
