Google shares news: Employs new senior cloud engineer from VMWare

Google shares closed in the green, Monday, amid news the tech giant has gained a new employee from VMWare. Jeff Jennings is a VMWare veteran and moves to Google Cloud, to work with former colleague, Diane Greene.

Google shares ended 0.98% higher at $1,094.76, in the US, Monday. The stock has generally moved in line with the broader markets in recent months.

New cloud expert joins Google

Former VMWare Vice President Jennings has joined Google Cloud, after leaving his former employment around mid-February.

VMWare has confirmed the move, as has Jennings on his LinkedIN profile.

Jennings “has made a personal career decision and left the company effective February 16. We thank Jeff for his passion and commitment and wish him well. As we look for a new leader, Rajiv Ramaswami will assume the role of acting leader for the Networking and Security Business Unit,” a VMWare spokesperson told news outlets.

Jennings has experience as a senior systems engineer and also, in cloud networking and security. All of which will likely prove essential to Google as it works to step up its cloud services offerings.

Use Google search in iMessages

The global tech business has also announced its latest update, that means Apple users can use Google search in their iMessages. When users are typing a message, they can do a quick Google search within the message and easily add any relevant results to that message. No copy and paste required.

“The Google app for iOS now supports an iMessage extension to help you search and share GIFs, restaurants and videos, whenever you’re messaging a friend,” said Google product manager, Khanh Le, in a blog post.

And, separately, Google is also reported to be considering selling Zagat, some seven years after it bought the restaurant guide service.

According to a New York Times report, Google is in talks with review site, The Infatuation, over the potential sale.
