Ethereum Classic (ETC) is one of the few major cryptocurrencies posting significant gains in today’s mixed trading session. The 14th largest digital currency has risen by more than 8% in the past 24 hours, mostly thanks to a big surge in today’s morning session.

Ethereum Classic remained stable on Sunday, after breaking above the $13 level in the previous session. The digital coin finished the day at $13.33, up from its opening level of $13.25.

ETC followed up its solid performance over the weekend with a strong start on Monday. The digital currency surged to as high as $14.31 in the early hours of the session. This was ETC’s first break above the $14 barrier since August 18, according to data from digital currency tracker Coinmarketcap. While the coin has seen some ups and downs in subsequent trading, it has so far managed to avoid a major price correction.

Thanks to its strong start, Ethereum Classic has been able to outperform most of the major digital coins, which have so far had a rather average trading session. The privacy-focused coin Monero (XRM) has been the only top 20 digital currency that has managed to keep pace with the forked version of Ethereum (ETH). Unlike ETC, Monero’s big surge took place in the early afternoon trading, when the coin jumped to an intraday high of over $128.

In today’ trading, the Ethereum Classic price stood at $14.45, as of 17:07 BST. The coin has gained 9.4% in the past 24 hours, which has lifted its market cap to just over $1.5 billion. At the same time, Monero was trading at $129.30, having gained 8.3% over the same period.
