Amazon shares news: Tech giant shows fashion sense by partnering with J. Crew

Amazon shares ended in the red Thursday, despite news the etailer has set up a new dedicated online store front, to sell J. Crew clothing. J. Crew Mercantile clothing, a more affordable line of the J. Crew brand, is now available to buy through, as the tech giant seeks to improve it’s standing in the online fashion world.

Amazon shares ended the US Wednesday trading session lower at $1,994.82. However, the stock is currently trading in positive territory in pre-market activity.

Amazon ups its online fashion appeal

Amazon announced Wednesday, that it had teamed up with popular fashion brand J. Crew. That means that the US fashion store no longer has to compete with the global behemoth for online shoppers. Instead, J. Crew’s Mercantile range is easily available to Amazon shoppers.

And, Prime members will benefit from free delivery for their online J. Crew purchases.

“From seasonal trends to everyday essentials across known and emerging brands, we are delighted to offer our customers selection for all their wearing occasions,” said Michelle Rothman, Vice President of Amazon Fashion.

“We are thrilled to partner with J. Crew, an iconic brand our customers love, to offer Mercantile and thereby make it even easier to access great styles and premium selection,” Rothman added.

J. Crew was equally upbeat on the news.

“J Crew’s mission to engage our customers wherever they want to shop makes Amazon the right partner for J. Crew Mercantile,” said J. Crew’s chief of emerging business, Aaron Rose.

Bezos donates to political veterans

Meanwhile, Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos has donated $10 million to With Honor, an independent political group supporting the election of veterans. Rather than supporting a single party, With Honor focusses on helping military veterans gain election into US Congress.

The decision to support this group, rather than giving financial support to any one political party reportedly appeals to Bezos and his wife’s nonpartisan views.
