BP plc. is a British multinational with operations in the energy industry. The company’s history dates back to 1908 on the establishment of Persian Oil Company a subsidiary of Burmah Oil Company contracted to exploit oil in Iran. The company transitioned into Anglo Iranian Oil Company, which later adopted the name British Petroleum in 1954.
The company operates under three segments of Upstream focused on oil and natural gas exploration, downstream, which refines, manufactures transports, supplies crude oil, and other petroleum products. Rosneft is a segment under BP engaged in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons.
Headquartered in London, BP has grown to become one of the biggest oil and gas companies in the world. It currently has operations in over 80 countries with over 18,700 service stations around the world.
The British multinational has its stock listed on the London Stock Exchange as well as Frankfurt Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange.
