Greggs Plc has been in business since 1939, having been founded as a Tyneside bakery by John Gregg. In 1964, Gregg’s son, Ian, together with his brother Colin took over the business following their father’s death.
The two took up one acquisition after another. This resulted in a quick and major expansion leading to the setting of its head offices in the UK.
The company has put all its attention on a vast set of products, including sandwiches, bakes, and sausage rolls. It is also into sweet products such as vanilla slices. Among its many other clients are over 6,000 primary school children to whom it serves breakfast every day under its Breakfast Club program.
Today, it is a leading bakery in the UK hosting more than 1,700 Greggs. It banks of growth and development to pursue its customer-oriented culture. The company is listed on the LSE market but will not stop launching new stores.
