About National Grid plc

The National Grid Company PLC came into being in 1990 after the generation and transmission of electricity in England and Wales were privatized. Initially, the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) was responsible for the activities but was broken up into National Grid Company, EDF Energy, National Power, and PowerGen. National Grid Company was designated with handling downstream activities of the electricity market while the other three took charge of upstream activities.

Primarily, National Grid is involved in transmitting and distributing electricity and natural gas. The company accomplishes its obligations via several subsidiaries including National Grid Ventures, and the US Regulated among others. Although the company’s headquarters are in London, England, National Grid operates both in the United States and the United Kingdom. National Grid’s operational headquarters are in Warwick, England. The US regulated subsidiary leads US operations. National Grid’s shares trade on the London Stock Exchange, and the New York Stock Exchange. The company is also part of the FTSE 100 index.
