Founded in 1997, Petra Diamonds is headquartered in Jersey and has its operations focused in Africa, mainly Tanzania, South Africa, and Botswana. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Petra owns world’s five most productive mines in the world that are famed to produce the best-polished diamonds. In South Africa, the company operates four underground diamond mines, namely Kimberly, Cullinan, Koffiefontein and Finsch.
Finsch mine is South Africa’s second-largest diamond producer. It was purchased by Petra from De Beers in September 2011 while fully staffed and operational.
The Cullinan mine previously known as Premier Diamond Mine was acquired in July 2008 from De Beers Consolidated Mines, and in the world, it’s the second-largest resource of diamond. It is famous for producing the famous Cullinan Diamond, which is the world’s largest diamond. Over a quarter of diamonds that weigh above four hundred carats originate from this mine.
Petra acquired Koffiefontein mine in July 2007 and the Kimberley mine in September 2007. In Tanzania, Petra operates the Williamson mine fully acquired in February 2009, and in Botswana, it operates exploration grounds at Kalahari Diamonds acquired in September 2005.
