Henry Walton Smith, in 1792, established the company. He was running the business as a news vendor together with his wife Anna, their son William Henry Smith took over. It was renamed W. H. Smith & Son in 1846.
Through the 1970s, WHSmith expanded as a result of joint ventures with other retailers. Eventually, it settled its headquarters in Swindon, United Kingdom.
The British retailer runs two core businesses offering a diverse range of products and services. The Travel business is primarily based in motorway service areas, workplaces, and hospitals, and it operates 1,019 units. The High Street business, which has 576 stores, offers various stationery and entertainment products.
The company operates in more than 60 airports across 20 countries. It interacts with various international brands such as Gadget Shop, Zoodle, Card Market, and Funky Pigeon. Nonetheless, WH Smith Plc does not compromise with innovation and has made a massive investment in it. It is listed on the LSE market and is still determined to move to new territories.
