George Weir and James Weir collaborated to establish G & J Weir in 1871; an engineering firm focused on pumping equipment. The equipment would be quite essential in the success of shipbuilding in the industrial scene within Scotland. Just a year later, the brothers founded a consultancy company, which they called Messrs. G & J Weir. The company would offer advice to marine engineers who wanted insights on the best practices when producing equipment for shipbuilding. G & J Weir would play a huge role in providing munitions for Britain’s military during the world war one. Growth of the business through the acquisition of companies like Worthington Simpson enabled G & J Weir to expand fast and ended up listing on the London Stock Exchange in 1946.
The Weir Group is a result of numerous mergers and acquisitions and is headquartered in Glasgow, United Kingdom. Weir Group operates in diverse industries, including oil & gas, ESCO, and minerals. Several subsidiaries and brands help to push the company’s products in the market.
