Schroder Plc was established in 1804 after Johann Heinrich Schroder joined his brother, Johann Friedrich Schroder as a partner in his company. Johann Friedrich Schroder had established J. F. Schröder & Co in 1800. Johann Heinrich Schroder took a leap of faith and established J. Henry Schröder & Co. in 1818. While J. F. Schröder & Co was majorly a financier of the merchants trading cotton and tobacco between America and Europe, J. Henry Schröder & Co. ventured into merchant banking.
In the mid-1800s, J. Henry Schröder & Co. began issuing bonds to finance mega projects like Cuba’s Sabanilla Railway. In the 1950s, Schroders Ltd was born, which later floated its shares on the London Stock Exchange using the symbol SDR. Presently, the company offers investment management services and hedge management. The firm makes investments in real estate, equity funds, commodities, and emerging market debt. Schroders is based in London, UK.
