How to buy real stocks on eToro

There are over 2500 stocks and shares available on eToro and you can buy any of them with just a few clicks. When you buy real stocks on eToro, you will actually own shares in the company you’re investing in. Buying real stocks is best suited if you’re planning to hold your position for the long term. Here are the steps to follow to buy real stocks on eToro.

1. Log into your account

Log into your eToro account and click the ‘discover’ tab in the left toolbar. 

2. Find your stock

Click stocks at the top of the page. Now you can filter by exchange and sector or just enter the stock you want to buy into the search bar. 

3. Open an order ticket

Once you’ve selected your stock, you will be taken to its home page. Click the invest button to open an order ticket.

Buying CFD stocks and shares on eToro is easy and the process is similar to buying real stocks. Here are the steps you can follow to buy CFD stocks on eToro.

1. Log into your account

Log into your eToro account and click the ‘discover’ tab in the left toolbar. 

2. Find the stock you want to buy

Are penny stocks available to buy?

No, penny stocks are not available on the eToro platform. eToro offers only listed companies on global exchanges. Penny stocks trade over the counter (OTC) and can only be bought using a full-service broker. 

What are the fees for buying stocks and shares?

When you buy real stocks on eToro, you will not incur any fees. There is zero commission in addition to no markup, rollover, and ticket fees. It is important to remember that zero fees only apply if you select x1 leverage when buying stocks. 

For buying stock CFDs, there will be some fees to consider. Below is a list of the fees you will be required to pay when buying stock CFDs on eToro. 

  • Spread. This is the difference between the buy and sell price for any share. Spread will be variable and will be different for each stock. However, it generally starts from 0.15%. 
  • Overnight fees. If you keep a stock CFD buy position open overnight, you will be charged a rate of 6.4% plus the Libor rate of 1.99%. These two rates will be added together and divided by 365 to give the daily overnight rate. 
  • US-listed stocks. If you buy a US-listed stock with a price of less than $3 there is a charge of 2 cents per united traded. 

Does eToro pay dividends on stocks?

Yes, eToro pays dividends on all stocks or ETFs where it is applicable. Dividends are paid directly into your account on the date set by the company you are invested in. To find your dividend payments, you can simply log into your account and navigate to the account settings section, where you can find your statement.
