NOV Inc. is a global supplier of technology, equipment, and services used in oil and gas drilling, completion, and production. Formerly known as National Oilwell Varco, the company has long been associated with the infrastructure behind the energy industry, providing many of the mechanical systems, components, and tools needed to drill wells and operate rigs. Its customers include major integrated oil companies, national oil companies, independent producers, offshore and onshore drilling contractors, and other energy service providers.
The company’s offerings span rig equipment, drilling systems, downhole tools, drill pipe, well casing, subsea and offshore components, and related aftermarket services. NOV also supplies products that support well construction and production operations, making it part of the broader oilfield services and equipment supply chain rather than an exploration and production company. Its revenue is therefore linked to customer capital spending, rig activity, offshore project development, and the maintenance needs of existing equipment.
NOV reports its operations through two main areas: Energy Products and Services, and Energy Equipment. This structure reflects both recurring demand for tools, consumables, and service support, and larger-cycle demand for capital equipment used in drilling and production projects. The company operates internationally, with markets outside the United States accounting for a substantial share of annual revenue.
For investors, NOV provides exposure to global energy infrastructure spending. Its distinctive position comes from its broad product range, installed base, technical expertise, and role as a key supplier to drilling contractors and oil and gas operators worldwide.
