Expert forecasts on the future of BlackBerry (BB)

Below we’ve provided comments from analysts at well-known banks and investment companies giving their views on BB stock.

We believe that BlackBerry’s valuation now more appropriately reflects the company’s near-term fundamentals, opportunities, and potential risks,”

Paul Treiber, RBC Capital, $7 price target

While we believe management has created a cogent long-term strategy and the business is turning the corner towards stronger trends, we await more proof in execution on the new product roadmap, evidence of cross-selling opportunities emerging, growing overall software and services revenue, and the potential for upside to our estimates before becoming more constructive on the shares.”

T. Michael Walkley, Canaccord Genuity Group, $7 price target

Short term BB stock forecast

Right now there is no clear direction as to where Blackberry’s shares will move in the short term, according to the experts. Some forecast higher prices, while others expect a drop and the general consensus appears to suggest holding BB’s stock. Below we’ve summarised the top expert price predictions for the next few years.

BlackBerry stock price prediction 2022

BlackBerry’s stock could be trading at $8 in 2022 if it grows by 8.25% over the year. That’s the average growth estimate from its six latest analyst predictions. However, that forecast is still lower than its 2022 opening price of just over $9.

BlackBerry stock price prediction 2023

The same 8.25% average growth estimate would give a predicted price of $9.60 in 2023, although not all experts anticipate a slow grind higher. Analysts at Bank of America are neutral on the company and have a price target of just $5.50, which is below its lowest 2021 price.

Long term BB stock forecast

Longer term forecasts are not frequently made by analysts as their focus tends to be on near term price movements. However some have and below we’ve rounded up the latest longer term Blackberry stock price forecasts. It’s important to remember that longer term predictions are more speculative in nature and a lot can change in the next decade.

BlackBerry price prediction 2024

In 2024 BlackBerry’s price could rise to over $11 which would see the company trading at late 2021 levels. Todd Coupland, an analyst at CIBC has the most bullish target for BB and has recently upgraded his target to double digits from an initial $9 forecast.

BlackBerry price prediction 2025

2025 could be the year when the tide starts to turn for BlackBerry, with some experts suggesting its shares may be close to $20. It has partnered with Marelli, a leading global automotive supplier to provide software for car cockpits, which is already being used by four Chinese car manufacturers. If its partnership is a success, then $20 analyst forecasts could easily be attainable.

BlackBerry price prediction 2030

At the end of the decade Blackberry stock price forecasts are between $60 – $100, although where its price is by then depends on a lot of factors. BB has been a favoured stock by retail investors from groups like WallStreetBets who have already spiked its price in excess of 300% once before and could do it again.

What affects the price of BB?

Like most companies, a lot of factors can impact the price of BlackBerry’s stock. However, unlike most companies, retail investors from groups such as WallStreetBets on Reddit can also move its price. Below, we’ve highlighted a few of the key drivers that affect BlackBerry’s share price.

  • Reddit. The popular WallStreetBets forum on Reddit impacted BlackBerrys share price in early 2021 when a group of traders began investing in it. A surge of new money caused highly volatile price swings and its price spiked by over 300%. If Reddit users decide to invest again, BBs stock would likely be affected.
  • Revenue. The past ten years has seen BlackBerry’s revenue continue to drop, from a high in 2011 of nearly $20 billion, to just under $1 billion in 2021. It’s share price has moved lower reflecting its poor figures. If the company’s revenues continue to slide, its stock will too.
  • Short position. Retail investors from WallStreetBets and other online forums started buying BB stock in 2021 while trying to force a short squeeze. They were successful and pushed its price much higher in just a few days. The number of short positions open on BB could again lead to another squeeze.

How has the BlackBerry price changed over time?

Its been on a steady decline. In 2008 its shares were trading at over $140. In 2022 its shares have dropped to below $10. In more recent times, BB has been part of the meme stock craze made popular by online forums such as Reddit. In 2021 it experienced a 300% spike in price in just a few days on the back of a retail short squeeze. When retail investors started losing interest in the company, its stock has dwindled lower despite a series of positive earnings reports.
