Hertz is a car rental company that has operated for over 100 years. Headquartered in Estero, Florida, it is one of the largest car rental companies in the world. It owns several well-known brands, including Dollar, Thrifty, and firefly, in addition to its flagship Hertz brand.

The company offers a wide range of vehicles to rent to individual and corporate customers and, in the United States alone, has a share of two-thirds of the car rental market. In May 2020, Hertz filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on its business. In July 2021, it managed to revive its business and pull itself out of bankruptcy.

Hertz has multiple revenue streams, although it primarily makes money by renting out its vehicles to customers. It charges a fee to use one of its vehicles, which can vary depending on the type of vehicle, the length of the rental period, and the location where the rental takes place.

It also earns money by selling its used cards and through additional services such as insurance and roadside assistance. The company has recently expanded into offering fleet management services to corporate customers and renting cars on a very short term basis.
