About Prudential plc
Prudential was formed during a period of turmoil in Europe. In 1848, a group of investors under the leadership of George Harrison met and pledged to raise enough capital to found Prudential Investment, Loan, and Assurance Association. However, the new company was incorporated under a different name called Prudential Mutual Assurance, Investment, and Loan Association. Soon after, the company changed its name to Prudential Assurance Company Limited.
The company started by focusing on Europe’s middle class as its primary market. Prudential prides itself on serving generations of industrial workers in Britain. In the early 1900s, the company began to expand into other European countries but maintained its headquarters in London, UK. The name Prudential Plc was adopted in 1998. Prudential now serves customers worldwide, where its major business focus is life insurance, consumer finance, and investment management. The company trades on the London Stock Exchange as PRU, on the New York Stock Exchange as PUK, and on Hong Kong Stock Exchange as 2378.
