About Royal Dutch Shell Plc Class B
Royal Dutch Shell was founded in 1907 as a result of merging of Royal Dutch and Shell
Transport and Trading Company. Marcus Samuel, founded Shell Transport and Trading
Company, which was involved in selling antiques and oriental seashells. After his death, Marcus
Samuel’s two sons expanded Shell’s business into oil transportation and export. After the
merger, the company’s name was shortened to just Shell. During this time, the company began
to consolidate its position as a major oil and gas business. It expanded rapidly through Europe,
Asia, and the Americas.
Presently, the company has its head office in The Hague, Netherlands, and it operates
worldwide as an energy and petrochemical company. The company explores, extracts, markets,
and transports oil and gas. Additionally, the company owns refinery facilities where it produces
diesel, gasoline, aviation fuel, base chemicals, intermediate chemicals, and petrochemicals. The
company is listed on the London Stock Exchange, the New York Stock Exchange, and
Amsterdam Stock Exchange (Euronext Amsterdam).
