Becton Dickinson and Company (BDX)
NYSE Market Closed
Becton, Dickinson and Co., widely known as BD, is a global medical technology company that supplies devices, systems and consumables used across hospitals, laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturing and outpatient care. Its portfolio spans basic medical products as well as more specialised platforms, giving the company exposure to everyday healthcare demand and higher-growth areas such as medication management, drug delivery and minimally invasive procedures.
BD’s medical essentials operations include many of its long-established products, such as syringes, needles, catheters and infection prevention items. These products are used in routine clinical care and benefit from BD’s scale, manufacturing capabilities and distribution reach. The connected care business includes the Alaris infusion platform, Pyxis automated medication dispensing systems and pharmacy automation technologies that help healthcare providers manage drug delivery, inventory and patient safety.
The biopharma systems business supplies prefillable syringes, autoinjectors and related components to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. This makes BD an important partner in the delivery of injectable medicines, including biologics and other therapies that require reliable, patient-friendly administration formats. Its interventional segment includes products used in surgery, peripheral vascular care and urology, supporting procedures that often aim to reduce invasiveness and improve recovery.
BD generates a majority of its revenue in the United States but operates internationally across healthcare systems with different clinical and regulatory needs. The company’s competitive position rests on brand recognition, regulatory expertise, manufacturing quality and long-standing relationships with hospitals and life sciences customers. Its breadth makes it a diversified supplier within the medical technology sector rather than a company dependent on a single product category.
