The group’s roots go back to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, which was founded in 1898 and later became a public company. Through its stake in S&P Dow Jones Indexes, CME is the exclusive exchange for trading and clearing futures on flagship S&P benchmarks. This gives the company a central role in global price discovery and risk transfer, especially during periods of macroeconomic volatility.
