DraftKings Inc. is a digital sports entertainment and gaming company best known for its online sportsbook, iGaming platform, and daily fantasy sports products. The business began in fantasy sports in 2012 and later became one of the main beneficiaries of the legalisation of sports betting across many US states after the 2018 Supreme Court decision that struck down the federal ban on state-authorised wagering.
The company’s core offering allows customers to place wagers on professional and college sports through mobile apps and, in some jurisdictions, retail sportsbook locations. DraftKings also operates online casino games, including slots, table games, and live dealer products, in states where iGaming is permitted. Its fantasy sports platform remains part of the business, while lottery and newer prediction-market initiatives broaden the company’s exposure to regulated digital wagering and entertainment.
DraftKings competes in a highly promotional market against other large sportsbook and casino operators, but it generally holds one of the leading revenue-share positions in many states where it is active. Its scale is supported by a national brand, a large customer database, in-house technology, and frequent cross-selling between sports betting, casino gaming, and fantasy products.
Revenue is generated mainly from sports wagering and online casino activity, with fantasy and lottery contributing a smaller share. The company’s performance is influenced by state-by-state regulation, customer acquisition costs, sports results, tax rates, and the pace at which new jurisdictions approve online betting and iGaming.
