Electronic Arts Inc. is a major global video game publisher and developer, best known for sports titles and large-scale entertainment franchises played across consoles, PCs and mobile devices. The company’s EA Sports division is central to its identity, with annual releases such as Madden NFL and EA Sports FC forming recurring pillars of its catalogue. EA Sports FC is the successor to the long-running FIFA-branded football series, while the return of its college football game in 2024 broadened its presence in the North American sports market.
EA also owns and operates several non-sports franchises with established audiences. Apex Legends gives the company exposure to the competitive free-to-play shooter market, Battlefield targets large multiplayer action, and The Sims remains one of the most recognisable life-simulation brands in gaming. These franchises help EA balance annual sports releases with live-service games and longer-cycle releases.
A defining feature of EA’s business model is the importance of digital revenue after a game is launched. In-game purchases, downloadable content, season passes and other live-service spending account for the majority of sales, while full-game sales make up a smaller share. That structure gives the company recurring revenue opportunities but also ties performance to player engagement and the health of its largest communities.
EA distributes games through major platform holders, its own digital channels and subscription services such as EA Play. The company competes in a hit-driven industry where brand strength, development execution and ongoing content updates are critical.
