Fidelity National Information Services (FIS)

FIS serves a broad mix of clients, from community and regional banks to large global financial organisations. Its software and outsourced services support account processing, card and payment functions, risk and compliance workflows, treasury operations, wealth platforms, and capital markets technology. The company’s 2015 acquisition of SunGard expanded its reach beyond traditional bank processing into record-keeping, trading, investment operations, and administrative technology used by asset managers and other investment firms.

The business has continued to reshape its portfolio around higher-priority financial infrastructure markets. After previously acquiring Worldpay to expand in merchant payments, FIS later moved to reduce and ultimately exit its remaining ownership interest in that business through a transaction with Global Payments. As part of that deal, FIS also acquired Global Payments’ issuer processing operations, strengthening its role in services that support banks and card issuers.

FIS is distinctive because it operates deep inside the financial system rather than primarily at the consumer-facing edge of finance. Its platforms are often mission-critical, highly integrated with client operations, and difficult to replace quickly. That makes the company an important technology partner for institutions modernising legacy systems, adding digital services, and managing increasingly complex transaction and data demands.
